Network Project on “An Integrated study on interactions between rivers and marine environment, and reconstruction of high-resolution paleoclimate record along the central-south-west coast of India”

Call for research project proposals

The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India, has been supporting various individual research projects related to Marine Geology and Geophysics through its OASTC in Marine Geology and Geophysics, Mangalore University. The Ministry now has decided to support network project with specific objective/s that can have several related components/subcomponents. Each component, in turn will have its own PI/Co-PI who may be from different universities/organizations. The OASTC now proposes to initiate the above mentioned network project with the following major components/ subcomponents:
Understanding the riverine processes and land-sea interactions including anthropogenic impacts; high-resolution reconstruction of paleoclimate and paleoceanographic conditions (1-10 years time scale); impact of global change; neotectonism; evaluate the role of coastal structures (the present strategy) as an erosion management tool; and develop drainage basin model for understanding the transport of sediments from Western Ghats and their deposition in the eastern Arabian Sea.

Research proposals on the above components/subcomponents having novel idea/novel approach, clearly defined objectives, experimental methodology and achievable within a period of three years are invited from the university faculty (if necessary, in collaboration with research institutions/industry) for funding.

Ten copies of the proposal containing defined objective(s), experimental approach, along with the bio-data and list of publications in the last five years as per MoES Proforma (www.ostcmu.ac.in) shall be sent to Dr. C. Krishnaiah, Research Coordinator, OASTC, Mangalore University, Mangalagangotri- 574 199, so as to reach him by 10th October 2011.  Prior to that, a soft copy of the same shall  be sent by e-mail (ostcmgg@yahoo.co.in).

Proposals will be screened and PI’s of short-listed ones will be called for presentation during October 2011.  Travel expenditure limited to 2 AC to & fro Rail Fare will be reimbursed by the OASTC.
