(i) Seminars/Workshops/Programmes conducted

The Cell has so far conducted four Workshops, one Seminar and arranged several guest lectures for the benefit of the research community to update the recent information in the field of Marine Science.

1. National Colloquium on "Marine Geological and Geophysical Research" during January 30-31, 1998.
2. Project Formulation Workshop during December 12-13, 1998.
3. Workshop for University teachers on "Isotope geochemistry and radiochemistry in the marine environment" during May 22-30, 2000.
4. National Workshop on "Teacher Education in Environmental Science (Environmental Magnetism)" during February 9-18, 2001.
5. One-day Workshop on "X-Ray Diffraction Studies on Clays" on January 14, 2003.
6. Conducted the Coastal Celanup Day programme on September 13, 2007.
7. Conducted the Coastal Celanup Day programme on September, 2008.
8. Celebrated Earth Day on 22.4.2008 and organised 4 lectures related to Tsunami, Earth Science, Climate Change, Monsoon and Weather Prediction for the students/research scholars/teachers.
9. Celebrated Earth Day on 22.4.2009
10. Conducted the Coastal Cleanup Day programme on September 13, 2009.

FUTURE PLANS
The Cell proposes to enhance and expand its research activities in the field of Marine Geology and Geophysics, by giving an emphasis on the thrust areas like sedimentology, clay mineralogy, geochemistry, micropaleontology, atmospheric science, marine geophysics and ocean energy resources. It has been proposed to procure additional equipment and setting up of few more labs and upgrade it as a central facility.

(ii) Cruise participation

OASTC is participating in the cruise meetings at National Centre for Antarctic & Ocean Research, Goa regularly and the research personnel of OASTC take part in the cruises to collect sediment cores. The parameters studied on the marine sediment cores: Textural, clay mineralogy, geochemical, bulk wet density, calcium carbonate and organic matter estimation, bulk mineralogy, CHN analysis and dating.
